Rainbow Whole Foods, our local health food co-op, uses this as the base for their house dressing, which is very good.  You can buy their dressing – find it in the deli case.

Well, I’m back on track.  I haven’t posted for a while, as I was dealing with the yeast issue.  I’ve taken various pills to kill it, and tried to stay on a yeast-free diet – which is the HARDEST diet I’ve ever done.  I consider it impossible if you’re a vegetarian.  The yeast is much better and I’ve returned to my “normal” raw diet.  I’m slowly adding back the juices and some grains and beans, but in low moderation.  A few days ago, I concocted a salad that I just have to share with you.  The picture below just doesn’t do it justice.  It was wonderful.  What’s in it?

RECIPE:  Into a mini-food processor, I put a handfull of raw organic cranberries, 4 sections of organic red grapefruit, 1/2 tsp. flaxseed oil, 1/4 tsp. olive oil.  Processed until all chopped fine.  In a salad bowl, I put sweet butter lettuce (my favorite), 1 green onion chopped, 1/2 avacado in chunks, little sprinkle of gray salt; then I poured the cranberry, grapefruit dressing over it.  YUM!  This would also be good with baby spinach and a few raw walnuts, pumpkin seeds, or sunflower seeds.

I’ve been trying to eat one whole avacado each day.  Usually eat half at lunch and half at dinner.  I LOVE sandwiches, have since I was a child.  I get tired of salads, so I put them on a sandwich.  I only use sprouted gain bread, preferring the Food for Life brand.  Here are a few of my “salad sandwiches”.

I’ve eaten a lot of pizzas lately, too.  I use Ezekiel Bread pita for the crust.  Most of the time, I use an organic pizza sauce or raw tomatoes whizzed in the food processor with herbs.  For these, I used a sugar-free organic ketchup I bought that ended up not tasting anything like ketchup, but it made a good pizza sauce.  A little sprinkle of soy parmesan cheese, then pile on the raw veggies.  I’ve used red onions, red peppers, chopped broccoli, sliced/chopped tomatoes, chopped spinach leaves, with a sprinkle of a raw milk cheese.  I want to make some raw nut milk cheese.  I heat the pizza just until the cheese melts.  These were WONDERFUL!

Warm Lemon Water – Best Way to Start the Day!

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Yesterday, I mentioned to a friend that I drank a cup of warm lemon water every morning, and she became very excited, sharing with me that the Lord had impressed upon her to drink warm water with lemon in it each morning.  She didn’t know why, but she and her husband were drinking it.  I was delighted to share the benefits of the drink, along with the caution to keep the water warm.

Each morning, upon arising, I immediately heat a cup of distilled water.  I use a class container to heat it.  I’m trying to eliminate metal cookware from my kitchen because of the metals we absorbe into our systems from them (Both my husband and I have been tested for heavy metals and are currently undergoing chelation therapy to remove them.)  You want the water to be WARM, not hot and not cold.  An extreme temperature will cause your body to expend energy to process them.  I let the water heat until the first sign of steam arises, then I pour it into my cup that holds the juice of 1/2 lemon and a tad of stevia.  I usually pour the cup to half full, then pour some of the water over the glass juicer to get the juice left there, then pour that into the cup.  By now, the water is usually a good lukewarm.  I drink this while I have my morning quiet time.  When I travel, I take lemons and a juicer with me.

When I have about 2 good sips left, I drop 4 drops of Oil of Oregano under my tongue and hold it there as long as I can.  Then I swallow and drink the last of the lemon water.  The lemon helps get the taste out of my mouth.  I don’t do the flu shots, so I’m trying to do the oil of oregano 2-3 times/day.

In my MORNING ROUTINE, I next do 20 minutes on the treadmill:  Lap 1, slow with small weights (trying to keep away the flabby arms); Lap 2, brisk walk; Lap 3, jog last half, working up to full lap of jogging; Lap 4, brisk walk first half, cool down last half.  That takes 20 minutes and I can fit that into my busy morning routine.  NEXT, I drink Barley Max.

WATER:  The first link below talks about water at the end.  We have the reverse osmosis system it shows at the studio where I work, so I bring it home in jugs – until I get a system installed here at home.  It is the BEST water.  If you live in the Jackson, MS, area and want info on having one installed, call or email me and I’ll give you the company’s info.

YEAST!!!!!!

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

During my last trip to my alternative medicine doctor in Baton Rouge, she decided my colon needed testing.  I just received the results and was not surprised at all to find out that I have a yeast problem.  I have loved and craved breads and sweets all my life.  She has given me a couple of things to take, but I also am following a yeast-free diet, which includes NO fruits or sweet veggies (like carrots and beets)  for the first two weeks.  Now, this is tough.  My juicing has changed, and I’m working on a V-8 type.   I can at least have a little Ezekiel bread or rice and rice products, and I was excited to find Ezekiel pasta at Rainbow.

I found a simple test online to test yourself for yeast.  I did it and was immediately positive.  I sent it to my daughter, who is just like me, and she was immediately positive.  Because yeast in the system can cause many health problems, you might want to test yourself.  Here’s how:

First thing in the morning before you put anything in your mouth fill a clear glass with water. Get some saliva built up in your mouth and then spit it into the glass of water. Check the water in two to three minutes and then every 15 minutes. First notice whether or not your saliva is cloudy or clear. If you have a candida yeast infection, you will see your saliva developing strings that go down into the water or your cloudy saliva will sink to the bottom of the glass. If there are no strings, the water is clear and the saliva is still floating after at least one hour, you are probably candida free. The more strings and cloudiness there is and the faster it develops, the greater the overgrowth.

Sunday Breakfast & Lunch

Sunday, September 13th, 2009
Lunch:  Spaghetti Salad.  I was raised on Fried Chicken and Spaghetti Salad.  The original recipe came from my aunt’s maid/member-of-family, Agnes.  My mother coupled it with Fried Chicken, and it was a family favorite.  Keeps in the refrigerator well.  Gets better as it sits.  We’d often eat “left over” Spaghetti Salad and crackers for lunch or snacks.  I took out the boiled eggs and added the red bell pepper.  Green onions in place of the red are good.
I was in Rainbow Saturday, and found some beautiful, juicy organic tomatoes for $1.99/lb – cheaper than regular ones at Kroger, and they made me think of Spaghetti Salad.  I bought the other ingredients that I needed and had a delightfull, nostalgic lunch on Sunday.
I use Spelt pastas and flour instead of whole wheat.  It has a much milder flavor and my husband likes it.  He thinks all whole wheat products “taste like dirt”.
I used a little coconut oil, but you could use olive oil or even omit the oil.
Soy products should be used sparingly, so I use Rice Cheese when possible.

Mango Papaya Kiwi Fruit Salad with Strawberry Sauce

Mango Papaya Kiwi Fruit Salad with Strawberry Sauce

I can’t remember if I told you to get Kelly some Probiotics (acidophilus-the stuff in yogurt).  They have good ones at Rainbow in the refrigerator section.  Much better than trying to eat enough yogurt.  I’ve taken it for years.  I change up the type from time to time.  Here is my fruit salad I told you about this morning.  I could eat the entire big dish of it, but limit myself to small bowls.  I spoon it into a bowl and put the strawberry sauce on top of it.  The strawberry sauce is just frozen strawberries with a little natural sweetener and water whizzed in the blender.

Build a Sandwich

In place of mayo, use fresh hummus.  I get mine from the local Mediterranean deli (on Old Canton by Hancock’s, for you locals).  Tomato and sprouts would be a good additions to this.  I limit my use of plastic where I can, so glass containers are preferred.
